So, apparently our power is back on, and it was all a blown fuse to begin with, only the fuse wasn't in our apartment, it was downstairs in the apartment of a guy called Chippie. What. The. Hell. I look forward to enjoying Electricity! when I get home.
I went and saw Brokeback Mountain, and gosh it was sad. Now I wish I'd read the story first, though. I've tried to be less pedantic about always reading the book first; actually, I've already become much less pedantic about this -- it was Lord of the Rings that did it. I read Fellowship of the Ring and loathed it so much there was no way I was going to read the other books before seeing the movies. And this past semester when I was writing about Rear Window I read the original short story upon which the film is based, and I did not like the story and almost wished I hadn't, though that wasn't really an option since I was writing a paper (the story is much less rich than the movie). Sometimes, though, I do still like to see the source material first.
But anyway, Brokeback Mountain. Sad. Like, I felt all kind of hollowed-out inside after it was over. I thought all the actors were really really good. Everyone was just spot-on, so much so that once in a while I was distracted from the story through being impressed with the acting, which is probably not what they were going for. And the scenery was gorgeous, and beautifully filmed. Also, wow, that was a lot of sheep.

So, last night I got home from work and there was a note on the door from
kmusky saying that we had no power! Except for two outlets, one of which was fortunately the fridge outlet. And we still have no power now, except for those two outlets. We are the only ones in our building with this problem, and we have had at least three men come up to look at our breaker box and assure themselves that we are not just idiots who can't flip our own breakers, and now they are calling in an electrician (the guy who came last night was a plumber, which was less than helpful).
Anyhow, last night I went to bed by (scented) candlelight and this morning I broke my bag o' 100 tealights to light the bathroom (all the other rooms have windows; there was enough light to see by in the bathroom if you left the door open, but I was not entirely comfortable doing that what with maintenance people coming in and out of the apartment, hence 30 tealights -- it's all very atmospheric). We have been reading and knitting by the window this morning, and in a little bit I'm going to go see Brokeback Mountain at Boston Common, where the power will presumably be on. Also I am going to buy a flashlight, because the only one I have right now is a keychain-type deal. My computer at least works, via someone else in the building's connection.
We'd sure as hell better have electricity tonight. I was really looking forward to last night's Scrubs and The Daily Show, but the TiVo of course did not record them because it was not receiving any power. And tonight there's American Idol audition show, which I would like to see. I'm very annoyed, and if the power doesn't come on pretty soon we'll be shaving a bit off our rent for this month, because I'm almost sure working electricity was one of the things we were supposed to get with this apartment (perhaps I should check the lease).
Anyhow, I should update before I lose Internet.
