My city's in ruins!

This morning, two hours after I came in to work, my boss arrived and said, "Is your family all OK?" And I was like, "Is there a reason why they would not be OK?" And it turns out a dye plant in Danvers exploded last night, levelling several houses and businesses (in addition to the plant, which is still on fire)! Incredibly, no one was killed, or even seriously injured. I called both my parents -- my mom lives about a mile away from the explosion, and my dad maybe two or three miles -- and they said it woke them out of a sound sleep and scared the hell out of them (my mom said it felt like the bed jumped off the floor, and then no news came on the radio or TV for 45 minutes so they had no idea what had happened), but they were safe and their homes weren't damaged or anything. So, big news in Danvers. The last time I remember seeing Danvers on the regional news was either when the cheerleaders got drunk and spat on the cops, or the thing about the transsexual firefighter.

Yikes. I'm glad your parents are ok. I hope you are, too. It's unsettling to discover something like that, when you've just been assuming that it's all there as normal. I remember being completely discombobulated when I heard about a terrorist bomb in my home town in a similar way. *hugs*

It's just such a shocking thing! But I think everything will be OK in the end. It's awful for the people who lost their homes, but Danvers is reasonably close-knit and fairly affluent, so I think ultimately most of them will do all right. I still can't believe no one was killed!

Yes, indeed! As soon as I heard where it was I realized there was very little chance they were hurt or anything, so I didn't have to suffer any real anxiety.
