I'm a bit put out at my state general court rep (a certain Mr. Frank Israel Smizik, and I hope he googles himself and finds this, how's that for passive-aggressive?). I emailed him to express my support of the universal healthcare amendment to the MA constitution, and received a nice form email saying how very strongly he supported this amendment and how he was totally going to try to get it voted on. And then he goes and votes to send it to a special committee for study! (Meaning that instead of getting voted on this November, it can't possibly get voted on until Novemeber 2008, grr.) Meanwhile, my state senator, who never replied to my email, at least didn't vote to send the amendment to a special committee. Though maybe that was because she was intending to vote against it, I don't know, since she doesn't answer emails.

Seriously, people! What do we pay you for?

Don't give up the fight; this one's worth winning.

This is basically the issue I concentrate on when I think about politics -- I think universal healthcare would make life so much better for so many people in this state (and the rest of the country of course). And the amendment has broad support throughout the state, if they'd only let us vote on it.
